Trong tiếng Anh, một giới từ (preposition) là một thuật ngữ (hoặc chuỗi các thuật ngữ) tạo ra mối liên hệ giữa một danh từ (hoặc đại từ) và các yếu tố khác trong câu. Nó được dùng để diễn tả vị trí, thời gian, phương hướng, lý do, sự sở hữu, chủ thể hành động, và nhiều mối quan hệ khác.

The book is on the table. (Giới từ on thiết lập mối liên hệ giữa book và table để xác định vị trí.)

Thông thường, giới từ đứng ngay trước danh từ hoặc đại từ. Tuy nhiên, tiếng Anh đương đại đôi khi cho phép kết thúc câu bằng một giới từ, đặc biệt trong văn phong thân mật và một số thành ngữ.

1. Các giới từ chỉ không gian (Spatial prepositions)

Các giới từ chỉ không gian xác định nơi chốn một người hoặc vật thể tồn tại trong không gian.
